Café May Feierei

collar: Trinkhallen Schickeria // jumper: H&M // shoes: small shop in Boston

Does this sound familiar? You move into a new city and always hear people talking about this one location you somehow never end up visiting?! Well, in my case the famous Café May definitely belongs in that category. So often have I heard about it but still I always choose other places in terms of breakfast. That is why the invitation to the birthday brunch of my good friend Lara just came in time to break my habit.

When I first set foot into the Café on Lappenbergsalle in Eimsbüttel last wednesday, the comparison that immediately came to my mind was the one with the Sofabar, where the room is also filled with old couches. That of course makes the whole atmosphere very cosy, which is really nice. But the telling argument of Café May is not its furniture, but rather the price you pay for brunch during the week. For a little bit under 5 Euros you can eat as much cake, croissants, bread, eggs, fruit , cheese, jam etc. as you want including orange juice. That is by far the lowest price I have ever payed for a buffet and I go out for breakfast a lot! The only oddity: when you decide to celebrate your birthday there you need to discuss if your guests will be bringing cake. If you don't the waitresses will not be the nicest to you, even if all guests have ordered the buffet and cake is included there. But anyway, I can really recommend having brunch at Café May, especially since you get a lot for your money. I guess from now on I will not only walk past the location but sit down on one of the couches once in a while...
