Bedford Ave Williamsburg

Nachdem am Sonntag schon Queens auf dem Programm stand, habe ich mich gestern dazu entschlossen gleich östlich von Manhattan zu bleiben und Brooklyn einen kleinen Besuch abzustatten. In Williamsburg bin ich zwar zuvor bereits gewesen, aber weil es damals eher darum ging schnellstmöglich weiter zur Brooklyn Bridge zu kommen, musste das ruhige Fleckchen von New York nochmals genauer ins Visier genommen werden. Bei strahlend blauem Himmel nahm ich also den G-Train zur Nassau Ave um durch den Park zum zentralen Punkt von Williamsburg zu gelangen: der Bedford Avenue. Fernab von Großstadttrubel und großen Ladenketten wird man dort von einer Vielzahl kleiner Cafés, Restaurants und individueller Läden empfangen, wo gemütlich gegessen und gestöbert werden kann. Vom Schmuck bis zur Lampe lässt sich auf der inoffiziellen Hauptstraße und ihren Ausläufern alles finden was das Herz begehrt und man kann sich fast sicher sein, dass zu Hause niemand mit denselben Teilen herumlaufen wird. Interessant waren beispielsweise das CATBIRD (Schmuck und Krimskrams),  der SHOE MARKET (Schuhe), das PINKY OTTO (Kleidung & Accessoires), der MINI MINIMARKET (Kleidung & Accessoires), sowie das NORBU (toller, ausgefallener und teilweise sehr preiswerter Schmuck).

After already having checked out Queens on sunday, I decided to stay on the eastern side of New York and study Brooklyn a bit more carefully yesterday. Since my last visit to Williamsburg was only in a rush I figured I had to give that part of the city another chance. Therefore I took the G-train to Nassau Ave and walked through the park to the inofficial center street: Bedford Ave. Far away from the hecticness of manhattan and all the well known store chains you will find a lot of small and unique cafés, restaurants, and shops, that offer everything one can imagine from a special lamp to nice jewelry. I especially liked the SHOE MARKET (shoes), the PINKY OTTO (clothing & accessories), the MINI MINIMARKET (clothing & accessories), as well as the CATBIRD and the NORBU (both jewelry).

Mit Abstand am besten hat mir der Antiquitätenladen UGLY LUGGAGE gefallen. Vom Lampenschirm bis zur alten Kamera lässt sich dort wirklich viel Tolles und Einzigartiges finden. Sogar die Preise sind moderat, sodass ein Einkauf trotz Übersee-Flug gar nicht so unwahrscheinlich wird. Ich werde wohl nochmals zurück fahren müssen um ein paar Schätze für meinen ohnehin schon überfüllten Koffer zu besorgen.

The best store in my eyes was the antiques shop UGLY LUGGAGE on 214 Bedford Ave. You can find the most unique pieces from an extravagant lamp to a really old camera. The prices are surprisingly moderate, so that a purchase does not seem too unrealistic in spite of a flight overseas. I guess I will have to go back there in order to find some stuff for my already too full suitcase.

Fündig geworden bin ich schlussendlich nicht einmal auf der Bedford Ave (obwohl ich am liebsten alles mit nach Hause genommen hätte), sondern auf dem Weg zurück zur Bahn auf der Metropolitan Avenue bei SHOWN to SCALE. Der bis dahin wohl günstigste Laden (abgesehen vom Second-Hand-Shop in der Bedford Ave auf Höhe der 3rd Street) lockte mich mit einem asymmetrischen Shirt mit transparentem Rücken in Tiefblau, das für gerade mal 30 Dollar in meine Tüte wanderte. Begutachten könnt ihr das fabelhafte Stück sobald das Thermometer ein paar Grade nach oben wandert...

When I finally bought something it was not even on Bedford Ave but on my way back to the subway on Metropolitan Ave. The store SHOWN to SCALE (which may have been the cheapest of all mentioned before except for the second hand one on Bedford and Third) persuaded me with an asymmetrical shirt with a transparent back in an amazing shade of blue for only 30 dollars. You will be able to take a closer look at my purchase as soon as temperatures go up a few degrees...
